Dr. Danielle Bassett, SAGE Center Junior Fellow from 2011-13, has been named a MacArthur Fellow for 2014. The MacArthur Fellows Program "is intended to encourage people of outstanding talent to pursue their own creative, intellectual, and professional inclinations. In keeping with this purpose, the Foundation awards fellowships directly to individuals rather than through institutions. Recipients may be writers, scientists, artists, social scientists, humanists, teachers, entrepreneurs, or those in other fields, with or without institutional affiliations."

The honor, sometimes referred to as a "genius" award, comes with a $625,000 five-year fellowship that may be used to advance the Fellow's expertise, engage in bold new work, or, if she wishes, to change fields or alter the direction of her career.

Dr. Bassett is the director of the Complex Systems Group and Skirkanich Assistant Professor of Innovation, Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania.
