Rochel Gelman will serve as Visiting
Distinguished Fellow starting May 2008.
Rochel Gelman is Professor of Psychology and
Cognitive Science and Co-Director, Rutgers Center for Cognitive
Science, Rutgers University. She has previously held positions
at Brown University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University
of California Los Angeles. Professor Gelman has conducted pioneering
research on the cognitive abilities of young children. She is
co-author of The Child’s Understanding of Number
(with Charles Gallistel) and is co-editor of The Epigenesis
of Mind: Essays on Biology and Cognition (with Susan Carey).
She is a William James Fellow of the American Psychological Society
and winner of the 1995 Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award
from the American Psychological Association. She is a member of
the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American
Academy of Arts and Sciences.
