Charles (Randy) Gallistel will serve
as Visiting Distinguished Fellow starting May 2008.
Charles (Randy) Gallistel is Professor of Psychology
and Cognitive Science and Co-Director, Rutgers Center for Cognitive
Science, Rutgers University. He has previously held positions
at the University of California Los Angeles and the University
of Pennsylvania. Professor Gallistel has pioneered foundational
research on learning and motivation in animals using a variety
of techniques, including electrical self-stimulation of the brain.
He is the author of several books, including The Child’s
Understanding of Number (with Rochel Gelman), The Organization
of Action: A New Synthesis, The Organization of Learning,
and The Symbolic Foundations of Condition Behavior (with
John Gibbons). He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences
and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of
Science and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
